History
A tobacco factory in the county town of Kremenchug, Poltava province of the Russian Empire, began operations in September 1842 and later became one of the city’s leading enterprises [1] .
The economic crisis that began in 1900 worsened the situation of the factory workers, in February 1903 they began a strike, which was stopped by the police who arrived at the enterprise [2]
After the outbreak of the First World War, the situation of the enterprise was complicated by the reduction of crops of industrial crops (including tobacco).
After the February Revolution in March 1917, the Council of Workers' Deputies was created in the city and the organization of trade unions began. In March 1918, a tobacco workers union was established. Subsequently, by decision of the City Council, an eight-hour working day was introduced at the city’s enterprises [2] .
On March 25, 1918, German troops occupied the city (remaining here until November 1918). Later Kremenchug was in the combat zone of the civil war , the power in the city changed several times, but after the end of the war the factory resumed operations [2] .
After the start of World War II , fighter battalions and militia units were created in the city, which included workers of the city's enterprises (including the tobacco factory). After German troops reached Kremenchug on August 7, 1941, they participated in the defense of the city along with units of the Red Army. From September 8, 1941 to September 29, 1943, Kremenchug was occupied by German troops . After the end of hostilities, the restoration of the factory began and already 20 days after the liberation of the city, it resumed work and gave the first products - shag [2] .
In 1965, a monument to workers of the Kremenchug tobacco-plow factory was killed on the street in 1905 (an obelisk with a memorial plaque on which the names of workers are listed) was erected.
After the independence of Ukraine, the state enterprise was transformed into a leased enterprise , in 1993 it was sold to the American tobacco company RJ Reynolds Tobacco .
In 2000, the factory became the property of JTI-Ukraine (a branch of the JT International division of Japan Tobacco Corporation) [3] .
At the end of June 2005, the factory mastered the production of two new brands of filter cigarettes (Golden Leaf and Lviv), which appeared on sale in July 2005 [4] .
The economic crisis that began in 2008 complicated the activities of other enterprises and organizations of the Poltava region; as a result, in 2009 the factory became the largest taxpayer in the region, from January 1 to September 17, 2009, it provided almost half of all tax deductions [5] . In 2009, the Cherkasy tobacco factory was closed (the equipment of which was moved to the Kremenchug tobacco factory) [6] .
In 2012, the factory completed with a profit of 364.38 million hryvnia , 2013 - with a profit of 536.527 million hryvnia [7] .
The factory completed the year 2016 with a loss of 48.13 million hryvnia [8] .
As of the beginning of October 2017, the factory was one of the ten largest taxpayers of Ukraine [9] .
