John Giannandrea (born 1965 , Scotland , UK ) is a Scottish [1] computer scientist and computer scientist, senior vice president of machine learning and AI strategy at Apple Inc.

Biography
John Giannandrea graduated with honors from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow ( Scotland ), where he received a bachelor 's degree in computer science, and then was awarded the honorary degree of Dr. Honoris causa .
At the beginning of his career, John was a senior engineer at General Magic. He was then the chief technologist for the Netscape Navigator web browser group at Netscape Communications , where he contributed to the creation of Cookie technology.
He then participated in the establishment of two technology companies: first, Tellme Networks - created in 1999 and in 2012 purchased by Microsoft , where John served as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and then Metaweb Technologies - a company that developed the Freebase project in 2005 and acquired by Google in 2010, where John is again served as CTO.
Since 2010, John worked for 8 years at Google, where he led the introduction of machine learning in various Internet services of Google - for example, such as face recognition in Google Photos , smart answers in Inbox for Gmail , and Google Assistant digital assistant . Then he began developing a strategy for using artificial intelligence in Google’s search engine [2] [3] [4] , and since February 2016, after leaving Amit Singhal, he has become an influential top manager at Google - taking over as senior vice president of search and artificial intelligence [5] .
In April 2018, he joined Apple and initially took on the position of Director of Machine Learning and AI Strategy at Apple Inc. , with direct reporting to CEO Tim Cook . John’s main responsibility is to manage the development of artificial intelligence and machine learning for all Apple products and services, but first of all, he leads the development of technologies in such projects as: Apple's digital assistant Siri [6] , Apple Core ML frameworks 2 [7] (a tool for machine learning and building neural networks ) and Create ML (a tool for creating and training AI data models). December 21, 2018 it became known that Giannandrea took the position of senior vice president of machine learning and AI strategy at Apple [8] .
John is also on the Board of Trustees of the SETI Institute and the Castilleja School in Palo Alto, California .
