The referendums in Switzerland were held on June 7, September 27 and November 29, 1998 [1] . In June, three referendums were held: on a federal resolution on a balanced budget and on popular initiatives "to protect life and the environment and against genetic engineering" and "Switzerland without a secret police". The budget was approved, and both initiatives were rejected [2] . In September, referendums were held on the federal law on toll roads for freight transport depending on the engine size (as a result of a federal resolution approved in 1994 on this subject) and on popular initiatives “for properly priced food products and ecological agriculture” and “10- I am a revision of insurance for old age and loss of the breadwinner without increasing the retirement age. ” The road payment law was approved, and both initiatives were rejected [2] .
In November, referendums were held on an amendment to the federal law on labor code in commerce and industry, on federal resolutions on the construction and financing of public transport infrastructure and the interim article of the Constitution on grain, as well as on the popular initiative “for cautious drug policy”. All were approved with the exception of the popular initiative, which was rejected [1] .
