Biography

Born in 1890 in the Vilsena parish of the Livonia province (now the territory of the Braslav parish of the Aloi region of Latvia ). Member of the CPSU since 1916.

Since 1912 - on economic, social and political work: a teacher in volost school of Skankaln volost , Latvian rifleman, chairman of Skankaln volost council, arrested, fled, instructor of the People's Commissariat of Latvia in Rezekne, head of the county and city department of the people Daugavpils Revolutionary Committee, in the People's Commissariat of Education of the RSFSR, in the propaganda group of the Central Committee of the CPSU (b) interrogators and teaching in Gorky , Deputy People's Commissar of Education, Minister of Education of the Latvian SSR, director of the Institute of History and Material Culture of the Republic, an academician-secretary of the Department of Social Sciences of the Latvian SSR.

He was elected deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of the 2nd convocation.

He died in Riga in 1964.
