Biography

He lived in Florence for several years as a political exile when representatives of the Malatesta clan who ruled on behalf of the pope seized power in Urbino ( Pandolfo II Malatesta , papal governor of Urbino since 1370, and succeeded him in 1373 by Galeotto Malatesta ).

In December 1375, taking advantage of the departure of the papal legate Angelico Grimoard and the unrest that began in the papal state , he entered the city at the head of an armed detachment (part of which were Florentines) and declared himself his hereditary ruler.

He was an ally of Florence and Milan Visconti . He took the city of Gubbio from Bishop Gabriello Gabrielli (Gabriello Gabrielli) and received the title of papal vicar from Benedict IX . He also received from the pope the castles of Corinaldo and Mondolfo, which had previously been controlled by Galezzo Malatesta.

In 1391, in the war with Malatesta, he conquered Sassoferato and Cantiano.
