Two rubles of 1718 (Bitkin # 68 / R)

Two rubles were in the Russian Empire during the reign of Peter I - later the first emperor of the Russian Empire. Initially, these coins were minted from 781 gold samples , their diameter is from 20.6 mm , and their weight is 4.10 g and 3.2 g of pure gold. They were issued in the Red Mint in the amount of 36,653 copies. The edge is patterned [1] [2] [3] [4] .

The obverse of the chervonets depicts the right profile portrait of Peter I in a laurel wreath, as well as in armor and mantle. Dots share a circular inscription. Rivets are located on the chest. Circular inscription: “BP ∙ SAMOD ∙ TSR ∙ PETR ∙ ALEѮIIEVІCH ∙”. The reverse depicts Saint Andrew the First-Called in front of an oblique cross, above which a halo is located. The initials of the Mitzmeister I. Lang (1707-1719) are “L”. The date is on the right. Circular inscription: "M ∙ NEW ∙ PRICE ∙ TWO ∙ RUBLES ∙ 1718" [1] [2] [3] [4] .

The characteristics of the two rubles of Peter I changed over the following years: since 1722, the diameter is from 19.9 to 20.5 mm, and the weight is 4.13 g. 36 739 copies were issued [1] [2] [5] [ 6] [7] . Since 1723, the diameter has been 20.1 mm, and the weight is 4.07 g [1] [2] [8] [9] .

The details of the two rubles of Peter I also changed: on the obverse of the two rubles of 1722, the right profile portrait of Peter I in armor with a laurel wreath on his head, as well as with a palm branch on his chest, is depicted. Rivets are located on the sleeve, the cloak is fastened with a clasp. Circular inscription: "LAYOUT ∙ A ∙ IMPERAT ∙ I SELF-ЕР ∙ ALL RISES ∙". The reverse shows the date digits, which are divided on the sides of St. Andrew the First-Called. Circular inscription: “COIN IS NEW PRICE OF TWO RUBLES 17 22” [1] [2] [5] [6] [7] . On the obverse of two rubles in 1723, on the carapace a double-headed eagle is depicted. Portrait of a sample of 1724. Circular inscription: "LAYOUT ∙ A ∙ IMPERAT ∙ I SELF-ЕР ∙ ALL RISES ∙". A reverse inscription is depicted on the reverse: “LAYOUT ∙ A ∙ IMPERAT АМ I SAMODERE СЕ ALLERGIES ∙” [1] [2] [8] [9] .

Two rubles of Peter I were minted from 1718 to 1725, in which there are varieties and remodels. Two rubles of 1719 were minted with a date of 1718 in the amount of 6391 copies [10] .

During the reign of Catherine I, two rubles were minted from 781 gold, their diameter is from 20.2 to 20.5 mm, and their weight is 4.10 g and 3.2 g of pure gold. 9156 were issued in the Red Mint copies. The edge is patterned [11] [12] [13] [14] .

The obverse of two rubles depicts the left profile portrait of Catherine I in a mantle with shoulder pads, on the head of which is a small imperial crown. The hair ornaments are reproduced from pearls. Circular inscription: "ЕКАТЕРІНА ∙ IMPERAT ∙ I SAMAMODER ∙ ALL-RUSSIAN". The reverse depicts Saint Andrew the First-Called full-length, supporting the oblique cross that is behind him with his left hand. The right hand is stretched forward. Circular inscription: "COIN NOVA ∙ PRICE TWO RUBLES 17-26" [11] [12] [13] [14] .

Two rubles of Catherine I were minted from 1726 to 1727, in which there are varieties and remodels. Two rubles of 1727 were minted with both a portrait of Catherine I and a portrait of Peter II [14] .

During the reign of Peter II, two rubles were minted from 781 gold, their diameter is from 20.5 to 21.1 mm, and their weight is 4.10 g and 3.2 g of pure gold. They were issued in the Red Mint in an amount of 11 728 copies. The edge is patterned [15] [16] [17] [18] .

The obverse of two rubles depicts the right profile portrait of Peter II in armor with shoulders and a cloak, on the head of which there is a laurel wreath without a bow. A star is played overhead. Circular inscription: "PETR ∙ II ∙ IMPEROR ∙ I SAMERODERZH ∙ ALLEROSISK ∗". The reverse depicts Saint Andrew the First-Called full-length, supporting the oblique cross that is behind him with his left hand. The right hand is stretched forward. The circular inscription: “COIN IS NEW PRICE OF TWO RUBLES 17-27” [15] [16] [17] [18] .

Two rubles of Peter II were minted from 1727 to 1729, in which there are varieties and remodels. Two rubles of 1727 were minted with both a portrait of Catherine I and a portrait of Peter II. Two rubles of 1729 were minted with dates of 1727 and 1728 in the amount of 23,798 copies [18] .
