History
Before the arrival of the Spaniards, representatives of the Indian tribe inhabited the territory of the municipality. The settlement from which the city later grew was founded on November 23, 1776.
Geographical position
The city is located in the western part of the department, in the mountainous terrain of the Eastern Cordillera , approximately 74 kilometers west-south-west (WSW) from the town of Tunja , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 884 meters above sea level [1] . The municipality of Koper is bordered in the north-west by the territory of the municipality of Muso , in the north by the municipality of Maripi , in the northeast by the municipality of Buenavista , in the east, south and west by the territory of the department of Cundinamarca . The area of the municipality is 202 km ² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 3,663 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by year:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 53.6% of the Koper population, women 46.4% respectively. Racially whites and mestizos accounted for 97.6% of the city’s population; Blacks , mulattoes, and Riesale - 1%; Indians - 1.4% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 80.8%.
Economy
63% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are enterprises of the trade sector, 27.9% are service enterprises, 6.5% are industrial enterprises, 2.6% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
