Political Events
- On February 2, Spanish Foreign Minister G. Lopez Bravo announced the intention of the government to seek the country's entry into the Common Market .
- February 4 - The army of South Vietnam with forces of about 20,000 people begins a military operation in eastern Cambodia .
- February 5 - the agreement on the establishment of an International Investment Bank with a location in Moscow, signed by the socialist countries led by the USSR , entered into force.
- February 7 - at a referendum in Switzerland, the majority voted in favor of giving women the right to vote.

- February 25 - The Government of the Republic of Yemen, led by Mohsen Ahmed Al Aini, resigned. The acting Prime Minister was Abdul Salam Sabra [1] .
- February 27 - In Colombia, after student performances in the city of Cali, a state of emergency was declared and all universities closed.
- February 28 - at a referendum in the Principality of Liechtenstein, men spoke out against giving women the right to participate in elections.

- The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of 1971 was adopted on February 2, 1971 ( The Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, especially as Waterfowl Habitat, the Convention on aquatic species and some birds , full name: Convention on Wetlands Having international importance mainly as habitats for waterfowl).
- On February 21, 1971, the Convention on Psychotropic Substances [2] was signed in Vienna ( English Convention on Psychotropic Substances , Vienna Convention 1971) - a UN treaty aimed at combating the abuse of psychotropic substances and preventing their illicit trafficking. (Entered into force in August 1976. As of November 2008, 183 states <ref name = "incb"> had acceded to the convention).
