Biography

In 1970 he graduated from Fifty-seventh school [1] . He participated in the XXXII International Physical Olympiad (1970) in Moscow [2] , taking the gold medal [3] , becoming the absolute winner along with four other participants [4] [5] . He defended his doctoral dissertation (1977) under the supervision of L. B. Okun at the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics , where he has been working since 1976 . The USSR Academy of Sciences awarded him a prize and a medal in physics in 1983 [6] for the series of works “Properties of heavy quark systems outside the perturbation theory of quantum chromodynamics”. In 1990, he went to the USA where he works as a professor at the University of Minnesota [7] , in place with his colleague Mikhail Shifman . Since 1990, a teacher at the Institute of Theoretical Physics. William I , Department of Natural Sciences [8] , and since 2007 Director, taught at the Minnesota College of Science and Technology . Member of the American Physical Society since 1997 . Explores quantum chromodynamics and quarkonium . In 2001, together with British physicists Nathan Izgur and Mark Wise, he won the Sakurai Prize "for developing a method for decomposing the mass of heavy quarks and for discovering the symmetry of heavy quarks in quantum chromodynamics, which led to the creation of a quantitative theory of decays of c- and b-hadrons" [9 ] , 2004 Humboldt Prize Laureate [10] .
