History
In 1857, John Lelong signed a contract for the delivery of immigrants from Europe to the province of Corrientes , but the move was delayed, and when the colonists arrived, the provincial authorities refused to accept them. Former Argentine President Justo José de Urquiza decided to settle them on lands that belonged to him as a private individual, and in 1857 the agricultural Colony San José was founded. In 1863 a municipality was established. In 1894, the settlement of San Jose upgraded its status to a town ( villa ) and was renamed Villa San Jose .
