Jizzakh region ( viloyat , Uzbek. Jizzax viloyati, Zhizakh viloyati ) is the administrative unit of the territorial division of Uzbekistan .

The administrative center is the city of Jizzakh .
Content
Geography
Jizzakh region is located in the central part of Uzbekistan between the rivers Syr Darya and Zeravshan . The area of the region is 20,500 km². The climate is continental, arid, with hot summers and moderately cold winters.
Borders:
- in the north with the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Syr Darya region
- in the southeast with the Republic of Tajikistan
- in the west with Navoi and Samarkand regions.
History
Jizzakh originated in the Samanids in the X century . Then he was part of the states headed by the Turkic dynasties of the Karakhanids , Anushteginids- Khorezmshahs.
In 1220, captured by the Mongols, was part of the Chagatai ulus .
Since 1370, it became part of the empire of Amir Temur , and later the state of Mirzo Ulugbek .
In the XVI - XVIII centuries, the territory of the modern Jizzakh region was part of the Uzbek states of the Sheibanids , Ashtarkhanids - the Bukhara Khanate , and from 1756 to 1866 the Jizzakh bekty was part of the Bukhara emirate , headed by the Uzbek Mangyt dynasty [1] .
In 1866, Jizzakh was conquered by the Russian Empire and became part of the Turkestan Governor General .
From 1922 to 1991, Jizzakh was part of the USSR , the Uzbek SSR .
Until 1924, the territory of modern Jizzakh region was part of the Samarkand region, in which Jizzakh district was formed.
Until 1936, the northernmost part of the territory of the Jizzakh region was part of the RSFSR (in the Kyrgyz and Kazakh Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republics ), then until 1956 in the Kazakh SSR . In 1956, part of the Holodnostep region (now Navoi , Jizzakh and Syrdarya regions) was transferred to Uzbekistan with the goal of developing a cotton monoculture in one republic [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] .
Jizzakh region was formed on December 29, 1973 as part of the Uzbek SSR. September 6, 1988 the region was abolished, February 16, 1990 restored.
Population
More than 1,186,100 ( 2011 ) people live in the region, or 4.7% of the population of the Republic, more than 70 nationalities and ethnic groups, 89.0% are indigenous people - Uzbeks . Along with them, Kyrgyz people live 3.1%, Tajiks 3.0%, Kazakhs 2.1%, Russians 0.7% and representatives of other nationalities 2.1% [8] . The population density of the region is relatively low and amounts to 50 people per 1 km². The rural population prevails in the region, its share is 69.5%.

- Yangiabad - 26.5 thousand inhabitants. (Balandchakir village)

Economics
Agriculture
The economy of the region is based on agriculture. The main agricultural crops in the region are cotton and wheat , and fodder crops, vegetables, and gourds (melons and pumpkins) are also cultivated. 1/3 of the agricultural land is used in agriculture.
Livestock farming is based on raising sheep, goats and pigs.
Industry
Production of building materials is the dominant industry in the region. There is also a manufacturing facility for the production of plastic products and cotton cleaning, and a fish processing plant operates.
A large number of mines operate in the region, in which polymetallic ores are extracted containing lead, zinc, iron, as well as raw materials for the production of lime and limestone.

There is automobile communication with Tashkent , Samarkand , Bukhara and other cities of Uzbekistan.
