History

In 1798, the governor of Cordoba, Rafael de Sobremonte, founded the settlement of Rio Seco here.

During the civil wars of the 19th century , was killed here in 1821.

The modern name of the city was given in 1858 by Governor .

Famous natives

  • Leopoldo Lugones (1874–1938) - Argentine poet, writer and journalist, representative of Latin American literary modernism.
