Architecture
The architects of the magnificent building were V.V. Velichko and Nemkin. The area of the temple was 285 square meters. The church had a dome 11 meters high and a bell tower 30 meters high.
The church to this day has three thrones, the central of which was consecrated in honor of the holy Prince Alexander Nevsky, the other two in the name of two great miracle workers and saints - Nicholas, Archbishop of Mir Lycia, and Alexy, Metropolitan of Moscow.
The mechanism of the chimes is brought to the bells of the cathedral. Chimes beat off every half hour, the clock of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is heard by residents of the entire central part of Slavyansk.
History
The cathedral was built and consecrated in 1895. It was erected by workers of the railway in gratitude to God for the abolition of serfdom by Emperor Alexander II, whose heavenly patron was the holy noble prince Alexander Nevsky.
On January 22, 1993, by decree of His Beatitude Vladimir, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine, the Alexander Nevsky Church in Slavyansk received the status of a cathedral. Now it is the second cathedral church of the Gorlovskaya and Slavic diocese.
In the early 1990s, it was decided to reconstruct the ancient temple. With funds raised by parishioners and caring donors, new carved, gilded iconostases brought from Poltava were installed in the cathedral. Before that, for a long time there was a stone iconostasis in the church, which, after the dilapidated church building was opened for worship, the parishioners laid out of brick themselves, without other materials at hand.
In 1994–2000, the domes of the cathedral were replaced and covered with copper. A warm floor was made in the temple, and the floors in all three chapels were tiled with marble on top. During 1998-2002, the temple was signed. The painting was done in an academic style by Donetsk icon painters. The territory adjacent to the temple was expanded and equipped. An administrative building was built near the cathedral, which houses a library, a baptismal room, a video library, and Sunday school classes.
In 2013, new bells and chimes made in Dnepropetrovsk were ordered for the bell tower of the cathedral.
The temple was damaged during the armed conflict in the Donbass in 2014 [1] .
