Symptom of the hood

The symptom of a hood (from fr. Capuchon [kapyʃɔ̃] “hood”, from lat. Cappa - a kind of cap) is a psychopathological symptom , a manifestation of a catatonic stupor [1] . Patients, while still sitting or lying, pull the linen on the head, leaving their face open [2] [3] . In this case, the patient's shoulders are usually raised, the head is tilted forward and a robe, blanket, shirt and the like are pulled over it. In this form, they look like they are wearing a hood.

Probably in this symptom there is a passive negativity or a tendency of patients to be closed, closed, alienated. Hood symptom occurs with catatonic schizophrenia and other mental disorders with catatonic syndrome . A similar psychopathological symptom is also found in some children with early childhood autism .
