Robert Fontaine is a British phenomenal counter . In 1999, he was recognized as the first grandmaster of oral accounts . Fontaine took first place in the overall ranking at world championships in computing in the mind in 2004 and 2006 and fourth place in 2008 [1] [2] .

Biography

Robert Fontaine became interested in mathematics as a hobby at the age of 11, after watching Willem Klein’s television appearance [3] .

At the first world mind computing championship held in Annaberg-Buchholz ( Germany ) on October 30, 2004, Fontaine took the first place in the overall ranking [4] [5] .

In the second championship, which took place on November 4, 2006 in Giessen (Germany), Fontaine won in the category of extracting the square root of a 6-digit number, 10 tasks in 15 minutes. In the category of adding 10-digit numbers, he took second place. In the overall ranking, Fontaine took first place [6] [7] .

In the third championship, held in Leipzig (Germany) on July 1, 2008, Fontaine took third place in the category of extracting the square root of a 6-digit number. In the overall standings, he took fourth place [8] .

Together with Ian van Koningsveld, Fontaine is a co-author of The Mental Calculator's Handbook [9] .
