Biography
He participated as an ordinary soldier in the First World War in the ranks of the German Army. Then he changed the name Siven to Susitival (literally - the Wolf track ) in order to secretly get into Germany, hiding from the tsarist authorities.
Member of the Civil War in Finland . After the war, he continued his military career. He graduated from the military cadet school.
Active participant in the Mäntsälä rebellion in 1932.
He was a member of the Eduskunt (Finnish Parliament) from the far-right party Patriotic Popular Movement (IKL) since 1939.
After the outbreak of the Winter War with the USSR, a staunch supporter of fascism , he voluntarily went to the front, leaving his deputy duties.
Having the experience of command, during the Soviet-Finnish War (1939-1940) he participated in the defeat of the 163rd Infantry Division of the Red Army at the Battle of Suomussalmi .
Subsequently, Susitalval considered this victory not only the peak of his military career, but his whole life.
Member of the Soviet-Finnish war (1941-1944) . With the outbreak of war, Susitalval was appointed commander of the 29th Infantry Regiment, which participated in the offensive on the Karelian Isthmus . Due to the demanding nature, hostility with Marshal Mannerheim and the conflict with officers of the regiment of Susitalil, they were transferred to the post of commandant of Yayanislinn ( Petrozavodsk ).
After the war ended, Paavo Susitalital left the army, lived in Lappeenranta , was engaged in literary work. The main theme of the works is the Winter War , the participation of the Finns in world wars, etc.
He bequeathed to bury him with an officer saber, so that future archaeologists know that his grave belongs to a soldier.
