According to the 2011 census , 15 people lived in the village, all Estonians [2] .
As of January 1, 2019, there were 19 inhabitants in the village [3] .
Description
The village is located 16 kilometers southeast of the county town of Haapsalu and 15 kilometers south of the Taebla volost center. Height above sea level - 10 meters [4] .
History
In written sources in 1689, the village of Hunga Byy is mentioned , in 1798, the village and tavern of Honga [5] .
The origin of the toponym
The linguist J. Koyt links the name Hank ( Hancka ), mentioned in written sources of 1572, with the name Oong . The origin of the name may be the word “ong” ( hong , ongas ) - a large, old, lonely standing pine ; this word comes from ancient eastern dialects. [five]
