The Hong Kong Premier League 2016/2017 (also known as the BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League by the name of the league sponsor) is the third season of the Premier League, and the 106th season of the highest football competition in Hong Kong.

Commands
In total, eleven teams took part in the competition. Seven teams of participants of the last season, two teams that have moved from the First Division, and two new teams.
Foreign players
The number of foreign players in teams' applications by league rules is limited to six (including one Asian player). Moreover, only four of them have the right to be on the field at a time. An R&F club based in China is required to have eight players with Hong Kong citizenship in the application and cannot declare players with citizenship other than Hong Kong or Chinese. This was one of the conditions for accepting the club into the league.
