Biography
Pierre Guffroy was born on April 22, 1926 in Paris . He studied sculpture at the National Higher School of Fine Arts in Paris, studied at the National School of Decorative Arts and from 1951 to 1953 at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Cinema (IDHEC) (now La Femi ).
Guffroix began his career in cinema as an assistant decorator in 1957, then worked as an art director with many famous directors from different countries, in particular with Marcel Camus , Jean Cocteau , Jean-Luc Godard , Rene Clement , Francois Truffaut , Luis Bunuel and others . In 1967, he was nominated for an Academy Award for his work in the movie “ Is Paris Burning?” ". In 1981, Pierre Guffroy was awarded the Academy Award for best work by a production designer in Roman Polanski ’s film “Tess”. He was also nominated five times and three times became a laureate at the César French national film award. [4] .
In 1992, director Pierre Sully directed the documentary “On the Other Side of the Scenery,” dedicated to Peru Guffroy. [5] Pierre Guffroy died in the city of Chalon-sur-Saone in 2010 at the age of 84. [6]
