Rio Tercero

Rio Tercero ( Spanish Río Tercero [1] , also known under the Native American name Ktalamochita , Spanish. Río Ctalamochita ) - a river in the central part of Argentina , flows through the province of Cordoba . The length of the river is about 300 km [2] . The catchment area is 9580 km² [3] .

It begins in the Sierra de Comichingones mountains in the west of the central part of the province in the Rio Tercero reservoir, formed by the confluence of the Amboy, Planisier, Rio Grande, Santa Rosa, Kilinso and La Cruz rivers. The height of the water mirror is 657.5 meters above sea level [3] . It flows in a general east direction [3] [4] , the average width of the river is 35 meters [2] . Merging with Rio-Quarto , forms Karkaranyu [3] .

The average water discharge at the source of the river is 27.1 m³ / s [5] .

The natural landscapes of the river basin are represented by upstream xerophilous forests and shrubs on the territory of the pampa in the lower and middle reaches [6] . The average annual temperature is 16 ° C, the average annual rainfall is 700 mm [6] .

The river basin is one of the main places of electricity generation in the province; six reservoirs are formed in the upper part of the river basin [3] . On the river there are settlements Almafuerte , Rio Tercero , Villa Askasubi , Pampayasta , Villa Maria and Belle Villiers [2] . Agriculture is represented mainly by livestock and soybean cultivation [6] .
