Content
History
Before the arrival of the Spaniards, the territory of the municipality was inhabited by representatives of the Indian tribe . The settlement from which the city later grew was founded in 1770. The municipality of Maripi was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1784 [1] .
Geographical position
The city is located in the western part of the department, in the highlands of Eastern Cordillera , approximately 70 kilometers west of the city of Tunja , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 1788 meters above sea level [2] . The municipality of Maripi borders in the southwest with the territory of the municipality of Muso , in the northwest with the municipality of San Pablo de Borbur , in the north with the municipality of Pauna , in the east with the municipality of Caldas , in the south with the territories of the municipalities of Buenavista and Koper . The area of the municipality is 112 km² [1] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 7480 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men accounted for 53.5% of the Maripi population, women - 46.5%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 88.6% of the city's population; blacks , mulattoes and Raisals - 11.4% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 78.8%.
Economics
The basis of Maripi’s economy is agriculture and mining [1] .
63% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 20.8% are industrial enterprises, 16.1% are service enterprises, 0.1% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
