Career
Charles Ogltrie began sailing at the age of six years on a class boat. Later, he entered the preparatory school Favor Academy, known for a good level of training of yachtsmen. After school, Ogltree studied at Old Dominion University, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in English. While studying in the fourth year, in 1989, he entered the symbolic team of the student sailing championship [1] .
In 1992, the Ogltree crew ranked sixth in the national qualifying competition for the Olympics in Barcelona in class 470 . After that, his partner John Lovell persuaded Charlie to go to the Tornado class . In 1993, their crew won the regatta in Miami , and a few months later they became the winners of the national championship [1] .
In 1996, Ogltree and Lovell performed for the first time at the Olympics. Then their crew took part in three consecutive Olympiads. In 2004, they became the silver medalists of the Olympic Games in Athens. At the Beijing Games in 2008, they were the only US representatives in sailing competitions [1] [2] .
From 2011 to 2012, Ogltree served as the skipper of the national team of China [2] .
