Krushtein Karl Yakovlevich ( January 29, 1887 , Est. Liigvalla (Lewolde), Est. Järvamaa , Estonia - November 3, 1921 , Petrograd ) - sailor, Baltic, participant in the First World War . Member of the Civil War, member of the Communist Party since March 1917. He served in the Baltic Fleet in Reval , after the occupation of which in February 1918 the German troops sent the Revolutionary Military Council to Kronstadt , where he was engaged in the formation and sending to the front of detachments of sailors. In 1918 and at the beginning of 1919 he fought on the fronts of the Civil War . In the spring of 1919 he was recalled to Petrograd , where he was appointed commissar of the General Directorate of Hydrography , and since October 1921 - commissioner of the General Directorate of Navigation . On November 3, 1921, he was killed in Petrograd by a Socialist-Revolutionary terrorist , and was buried in a square on Kommunarov Square .
From 1922 to 1991, the Admiralty Canal in Leningrad was called the Krushtein Canal [1] .
