Louis Le Chatelier ( fr. Louis Le Chatelier ; February 20, 1815 , - November 10, 1873 , Miribel-les-Eschelles ) - French engineer and chemist . Mining engineer who participated in the construction of the French railways. He developed a method for producing aluminum from bauxite in 1855. His name is on the list of 72 names on the Eiffel Tower .

Le Chatelier and his wife Louise Madeleine Elizabeth Durant (1827–1902) had seven children. One of them is the famous physicist and chemist Henri Louis Le Chatelier , and the second, Alfred Le Chatelier (1855–1929), is a French soldier and ceramist.
