Digital Product Definition (MBD) , a synonym for Digital Product Definition (DPD) - the practice of using 3D digital data (such as solid-state models and associated metadata) within 3D CAD software to provide specification for individual components and assembled products. The types of information contained in the MBD include geometric dimensions and tolerances, engineering specifications at the assembly level, description of materials at the detail level, engineering configurations, design intent, etc. Unlike MBD, other techniques involve the use of 2D accompanying drawings.
Standardization
In 2003, ASME published ASME Standard Y14.41-2003 Digital Product Definition Data Practices . The standard provides for the use of certain aspects of MBD such as geometric dimensions and tolerances in a solid model. Other standards, such as ISO 1101: 2004 and AS9100, also use the MBD concept.
