French knickers (also known as tap pants in the United States) are a type of women 's underwear . This term is primarily used in the UK and Australia to describe the style of panties, which is similar to shorts. French panties are worn on the hips, they hide the upper part of the thighs and the entire gluteal zone. Clothing has an “open leg” style (free leg opening without elastic cuffs) [1] , which is more comfortable to wear, and leg cuffs are straight cut and can be made with or without lace trim. The fabric often comes with a cut bias .
French panties should not be confused with other types of underwear, such as hipsters , bikinis and boyhorts , which have elastic openings for legs and they fit snugly to the body.
French panties blend perfectly with full, flared skirts, pants and dresses, as they can add volume and form a visible panty line (VPL). This type of underwear is an elegant, comfortable and healthy alternative to fitting models of underwear. Often made of expensive fabrics, including silk.
History
French panties are the heirs of underpants and underwear of the Victorian era , and probably got their name from the frilled underwear worn by the dancers of the French theaters Cancan that existed in the late 1800s - early 1900s; the French, however, do not use this term. [1] In the 1920s and 1930s, French panties were very popular, but by the 1940s and 1950s, most women wore ; [2] possibly due to lack of fabric and lack of silk. By the 1950s, the models of linen adjacent to the body became almost ubiquitous.
Rebirth received in the 1970s. French panties are back in fashion thanks to the designer Janet Reger and others, and were especially popular in the 1980s in specialty stores. The popularity of French panties declined again in the 1990s, as younger consumers showed more interest in other styles of underwear, such as briefs and tanga . They are still sold today and are most commonly found in vintage clothing retailers and specialty stores.
