History

In November 1943, Sukhoi Design Bureau developed an artillery spotter based on the German Focke-Wulf Fw 189 . The aircraft had a crew of three people and was equipped with M-62 engines. Funding was allocated thanks to the intervention of the Chief Marshal of Artillery of the USSR N. N. Voronov . The crew was increased to four people, and the engines were replaced by more powerful ASH-82M with a capacity of 2100 liters. from.

The prototype Su-12 made its first flight on August 26, 1947 (test pilot N.D. Fixon ). Flight tests were completed on October 30. Due to problems with the ASh-82M engines, it was decided to replace 1,850 liters with the ASh-82FM. s., but, despite the reliability, less powerful engines led to the fact that the Su-12 did not meet its characteristics of maximum speed and practical ceiling. The Su-12 completed state tests in September 1949 and its production was planned. Due to a shortage of materials in the USSR, in October 1949 it was proposed to build an aircraft in Czechoslovakia. However, the proposal for production was rejected because the declared flight performance specifications were not fulfilled. Subsequent efforts by Sukhoi Design Bureau to secure funding and to continue work on the Su-12 were rejected [1] .
