Biography

Otto Bradfish was born on May 10, 1903 in the family of a merchant who still had three children. In Kaiserslautern, he studied for four years in elementary school, then entered the humanistic gymnasium, having passed final exams in 1922. He studied economics at the universities of Leipzig , Innsbruck , Heidelberg and Freiburg . In 1926 he received a doctorate in economic and political sciences. He later studied law in Erlangen and Munich. He passed his first state exam on February 17, 1932, and the second on September 20, 1935. January 1, 1931 joined the NSDAP (party ticket number 405 869) [1] . First, Bradfish served in the government of Upper Bavaria, then worked as an official in the Ministry of the Interior. While studying in Munich , Bradfish served as an orts group grouper in Freiman . In 1936 he became a member of the National Socialist Mechanized Corps . In 1937 he became deputy head of the Gestapo in the city of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse . September 26, 1938 became a member of the SS (No. 310 180). November 4, 1938 became a government adviser.

World War II

In June 1941, he was appointed commander of the Einsatzkommand 8, who carried out the massacre in Belarus . He was responsible for the mass executions in Bialystok (1,100 Jews and communist functionaries were shot), in Baranovichi (381 Jews were shot), in Minsk (2,000 people were shot), in Bobruisk (5,000 Jews were shot) and Mogilev (4,100 Jews and Soviet were shot) prisoners of war). It is known that he himself took part in executions. April 26, 1942 became the head of the Gestapo in the city of Lodz. In this post, he was responsible for the deportation of Jews to the Helmno concentration camp [1] . In the summer of 1942 he became commander of the security police and SD in Lodz, and later the mayor of this city. Since December 1944, Bradfish was the commander of the Security Police and SD in Potsdam . After the arrival of the Red Army, he managed to escape to the West with documents addressed to the Wehrmacht officer Karl Evers.

After the war

After the war, Bradfish was arrested by the Americans, but he was released from captivity in August 1945. Until 1953 he lived under the name of Karl Evers . He worked in agriculture, then in the mining industry. Then he became an insurance agent, and then director of the Hamburg-Mannheimer insurance campaign. April 21, 1958 was arrested. On July 21, 1961, a Munich court sentenced him to 10 years in prison for complicity in the murder of 15,000 people [1] [2] . In 1963, a court in Hanover was also sentenced to 13 years in prison for complicity in the murder of 85,000 Jews in Lodz [3] , but with the help of the theologian Herman Schlingenzipen was released in 1969.
