Tayla Nathan-Wong ( born Tyla Nathan-Wong , born July 1, 1994 in Auckland ) is a New Zealand rugby player and touch-rugby player who plays as a defender. Silver medalist at the Rugby 7 Summer Olympics 2016 [1] .

Game career

She graduated from Linfield High School and Linfield College [2] [3] , practiced touch rugby and played for the New Zealand national team in this sport. In 2012, at the age of 18, she became the youngest player in the history of the New Zealand national rugby-7 team, in her composition she won the world champion title in 2013 [1] [4] [5] . In the same year, recognized as the best young Maori athlete of the year, in 2014 she was nominated for the same prize [6] [7] .

In 2015, Nathan Wong received the prize of the best New Zealand rugby player in rugby 7 following the results of the year [8] . She also played at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 [9] , where she scored 29 points thanks to one attempt and 12 successful implementations. At the same time, in the semi-final against Great Britain she missed five times for implementation, and in the final against Australia her two misses also did not allow New Zealanders to pull out Olympic gold, as a result of which New Zealanders had only silver. In 2017, she became the captain of the rugby 7 team. In the 2017/2018 season, she entered the Top 5 world rugby-7 record holders in the number of points scored (159) with a total of 670 points for the national team in the World Series in total [10] . In 2018, as part of the rugby 7 team, she won the second world championship in her career.

Personal life

Originally from the Iwi (tribe) Ngapuhe. I studied playing rugby under the guidance of my father and grandfather. Favorite films - “ The Lion King ” and “ Frozen ”, favorite actress - Sandra Bullock , favorite rugby player - Anna Richards, favorite sportsmen of other sports - Valerie Adams (shot put), Jonathan Thurston (rugby league) and Lisa Carrington (kayaking) [1] .
