Prince de Lampedusa ( Spanish: Principado de Lampedusa ) - Spanish aristocratic title. It was created on August 13, 1667 by the King of Spain, Charles II, for Giulio I Tomazi, Duke of Palma. Since 1724, the princes de Lampedusa were the grandees of Spain of the 1st class .

The name of the princely title comes from the name of the island of Lampedusa in the Mediterranean Sea, 205 km from Sicily and 113 km from Tunisia . The island of Lampedusa, since the 15th century , belonged to the Caro-Tomazi family, which received the title of Baron Monteciaro from King of Naples Alfonso V. In the mid- 19th century, the princes of Lampedusa sold their island to the Kingdom of both Sicilies .
In 1861, the Kingdom of both Sicilies was liquidated and incorporated into the Italian kingdom . In 1903, the title of Prince de Lampedusa was recognized in the Kingdom of Italy.

History
At the end of the 16th century, Baroness Montechiaro (the last of Caro’s house, who owned the island of Lampedusa ) married a Sicilian Mario Tomazi. Their eldest son received the name: Carlo Giulio Caro Tomazi and inherited the title of mother. He was raised by his uncle, Mario Caro Tomazi, Governor of Licata . With the support of Uncle and King of Spain Philip IV, in 1637, Carlo Giulio Caro Tomazi annexed the city of Palma to the Montechiaro feud. The following 1638, Carlo Giulio Caro Tomazi received the title of Duke de Palma, but then he gave up his high life and joined the Theatine Catholic Order . The titles of the Duke of Palma and Baron di Montechiaro were transferred to his brother Giulio, who in 1667 received the title of Prince de Lampedusa from the King of Spain Charles II. He was known as the "Holy Duke." All his descendants lived on the island of Sicily, in the cities of Palma and Palermo .
Among them, the most famous are Ferdinando II, 4th prince de Lampedusa, who served the Habsburgs and Bourbons, who in 1724 received the rank of grand Spanish 1st class. The last prince de Lampedusa was the Italian politician and diplomat Pietro Paolo Tomazi, the Marquis della Torreta (1873-1962), uncle and successor to Giuseppe Tomazi. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy (1921-1922) and Chairman of the Senate of Italy (1944-1946).
