Career

Alex was born in 1987 in Boston. He grew up in Viro Beach in Florida, where he moved with his family at the age of two. Since childhood, Cobb was a fan of the Boston Red Sox , his favorite player he called Nomar Garciaparra [1] . While studying at high school, in addition to baseball, Alex played American football , was a quarterback of the school team. In 2013, Viro Beach School pulled out of circulation number 12, under which he played. After graduation, Cobb planned to enter Clemson University, offering him a sports scholarship [2] .

At the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft, Alex was chosen by the Tampa Bay Flight Club and, instead of continuing his studies, decided to sign a professional contract [3] . In Major League Baseball, Cobb made his debut in 2011, playing for the “Flight” in nine games. In August, he was included in the list of injured due to pain in the hand and underwent surgery, because of which he missed the rest of the season [4] . He returned to the squad in the 2012 season. On August 23, Alex spent the first full game of his career [5] .

On June 15, 2013, in a match with Kansas City Royals , a ball hit by Eric Hozmer hit Cobb in the head. An examination in the hospital showed that Alex suffered a concussion and avoided more serious injuries [6] . He returned to the field two months later, on August 15, in an away game with the Seattle Mariners [7] . Later, Cobb participated in the development of new additional head protection for pitchers, which were approved by Major League Baseball in 2014 [8] .

In April 2015, the club put Alex on the list of those injured with tendonitis [9] . In May, he was diagnosed with partial rupture of the collateral ligament of the elbow and confirmed the need for Tommy John surgery . Because of this, Cobb completely missed the 2015 season [10] . He appeared on the field only at the end of August 2016 [11] .

In 2017, Alex played 29 games for Tampa as a starting pitcher, scoring 12 wins with an ERA transmittance of 3.66 [12] . After the end of the season, he received the status of a free agent. In March 2018, Cobb agreed on a four-year contract with the Baltimore Orioles club [13] .

The first part of the championship in 2018 was unsuccessful for him. By mid-August, he had only three wins with fifteen defeats, and ERA transmittance was 5.31. Despite the poor performance, after a break for the All-Star Game, Cobb was one of the team's best pitchers, missing just 2.17 points per game in six games in July and August. After leaving the team of Kevin Gosman and the unstable performance of Andrew Cashner and Dylan Bundy , Alex remained one of the leading Orioles pitchers before the restructuring of the team that began after the season ended [14] .
