Biography
Club career
Pupil SDUSHOR "Dawn." For some time he studied at the Kharkov Institute of Physical Education and was part of one of the reserve teams of Metalist , which played in the championship of the Kharkov region . Having not been given the opportunity to fully prove himself on the football field, Shelaev accepted the invitation of the team of the highest league - Lugansk " Dawn ". At the end of November 1993, the midfielder played the first game for Dawn. This season he spent only 8 matches, but over the next 2 years he became the main player. In the major league he made his debut on November 20, 1993 (“Dawn” - “Niva” (Vinnitsa) - 0: 1). Subsequently, the Moscow concern LITTLE stopped financing the team and in the 1995/96 season the Lugansk residents left the Premier League, taking the last place.
Shelaev moved to Shakhtar , with whom he became the owner of the Ukrainian Cup 1997 . In Donetsk, the defensive midfielder did not manage to break into the main squad and the club leased it out - first to Dnipropetrovsk Dnipro , which in the 1998/99 season struggled to stay in the Premier League, and subsequently to Donetsk Metallurg , which then headed by Simon Altman .
After the lease was completed, Shelaev was invited to play in the Dnipro. Evgeni Kucherevsky assembled a team that fought for bronze medals of the Ukrainian Championship and played in European competitions. For some time, Kucherevsky was helped by Vadim Tishchenko , a former Dnipro footballer who played in the position of a defensive midfielder. Shelaev, as he himself admits, was greatly helped by Tishchenko’s advice and experience .
Having not found a common language with the new head coach Vladimir Bessonov , in the winter season 2008/09 he went on loan to Kryvyi Rih Krivbass . At the time of his departure, he was the record holder for the largest number of games played as part of Dnipro within the Ukrainian Championship [1] - 209 matches.
July 10, 2009 signed a two-year contract with Kharkov Metalist . He scored his first goal for Metalist in the Ukrainian Cup on September 22, 2010 in a game against Kiev Arsenal . But this did not save Metalist from relegation from the Cup of Ukraine. On October 20, 2012, he played the 400th match in the Ukrainian championship, becoming the second player to reach this milestone (the first was Alexander Chizhevsky ).
Rumors about Oleg’s completion of a player’s career [2] , which appeared in May 2013, turned out to be a “duck”. In July, the Ukrainian championship champion in the number of matches played in the top division underwent pre-season training as part of the first Metalist team at the summer training camp in Austria [3] and was announced for the 2013/14 season , after which he completed his performances. At the end of his career, he played at an amateur level
Team Career
He played 36 matches in the national team of Ukraine, scored 1 goal. Debuted on April 28, 2004 in the match Ukraine - Slovakia (1: 1). Together with the national team of Ukraine, he played at the World Cup in Germany.
