History

The development of the first Bulgarian remotely controlled unmanned aerial vehicles began in 1965, after Senior Lieutenant Milcho Yordanov proposed using small-sized aircraft as maneuverable air targets, as well as introduced a radio-controlled model of an aircraft of its own design and demonstrated its capabilities. The idea was approved by the command, the head of the country's air defense department General Kozarev and the head of the air defense combat training department, Colonel Dikov approved the decision to create a group for the development of radio-controlled targets in the anti-aircraft regiment in Plovdiv , the task of designing radio control equipment was entrusted to the Institute of Special Optics and Electronics and DSO Metalhim target aircraft.

In May 1966, a group of Captain Yordanov was transferred to an aircraft repair plant in Plovdiv and began preparations for the production of serial target aircraft. After a series of test flights of prototypes, designs of target aircraft RUM-1 and RUM-2 were developed [1] .

In 1968, the first 16 aircraft were transferred to the troops [1] : 12 pcs. RUM-1 (monoplane weighing 2 kg with a flight range of up to 1.5 km) and 4 pcs. RUM-2 (monoplane weighing 9 kg with a flight range of up to 2 km) and a set of control equipment TX / RX-14, in October 1968 the design group of captain Yordanov received the namePKTG -102.

In 1969, an improved model RUM-2M was developed and adopted for service [1] .

In 1971, the RUM-2MB model was developed, which received a new set of Yavor-1 analog control equipment. The RUM-2MB target aircraft proved to be very successful, its mass production for the Bulgarian armed forces and for export continued over the course of a number of years, a total of 1,112 pieces were produced. target aircraft of this type [1] .

In 1973, on the basis of the PKTG-102, a research and technological institute was created, which was entrusted with the development of new models of unmanned aerial vehicles.

Bulgarian-made RUM-2MB target planes were used in the USSR during tests of the modernized version of the Osa-AK anti-aircraft missile system at firing held from September to December 1979 at the Embensky training ground. Tests showed that the air defense system can be effectively used to combat unmanned aerial vehicles and in 1980 the modernized complex was put into service under the name Osa-AKM [2] .

Description

The RUM-2MB target aircraft was developed on the basis of the design of the RUM-2 model and is a 14-kg high-wing aircraft equipped with a 50 hp in - line two - cylinder internal combustion engine. with a pulling two-bladed propeller , which is capable of speeds up to 130 km / h.
