Description

Small herbivorous mites (less than 1 mm long) are usually red. The integument is dense, the body is covered with 2-3 dorsal scutes. Chelicera fused into a stylophore. They have 2 pairs of eyes and 5-segmented tarsi. Tibia of pedipalp without claw. The cycle of individual development includes 4 stages (egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph and adult) and usually takes about 3-4 weeks. Arrenotokia is characteristic in reproduction. It includes economically important representatives, as they feed on plant juices. For example, the genus Brevipalpus (over 280 species) spreads rhabdoviruses, causing diseases of citrus fruits, tea, olive, coffee tree and other agricultural plants, reducing their productivity [1] [2] [3] [4] .

Among the pests are American species Brevipalpus californicus (Banks) , Brevipalpus obovatus Donnadieu , Brevipalpus phoenicis (Geijskes) , Raoiella indica (Hirst) [3] .
