The rear is a term in the military that can mean the following concepts [1] [2] [3] :
- the entire territory of the state participating in the war, together with its population and economic resources;
- means and forces performing rear and technical support of the armed forces in peacetime and wartime (rear of the armed forces). Subdivided into the rear of the armed forces;
- side or part of the system , battle formation , operational formation of troops (forces), opposite the front.
