Public Reaction

Dismantling the Literary House

In January-February 2011, during the dismantling of the Literary House ( St. Petersburg , Nevsky Prospekt , Building 68), KrashMash faced a series of pickets organized by human rights defenders that interfered with the work of equipment and protesters against the illegal demolition of the historic building [34] [35] . However, in February, the demolition of the building was completed, and the prosecutor's office recognized the demolition of the Literary House as legitimate, as its accident rate was proved, which could not be eliminated by other means than dismantling [36] .

In the summer and autumn of 2017 in Moscow, during the dismantling of a number of buildings on Sredny Tishinsky Lane 5/7, active protests began in defense of the Palace of Culture named after A. S. Serafimovich built in 1928-1929, for which the experts of the Moscow City Heritage did not find grounds for inclusion in the list of identified objects of cultural heritage [37] . After the activists appealed to the Department of Cultural Heritage of Moscow, the work was suspended, but then resumed due to the lack of obvious and documented data on the historical, architectural and memorial value of the Palace of Culture, which could allow attributing this building to objects of cultural heritage [38] .
