Sandro Cuomo ( Italian: Sandro Cuomo ; born October 21, 1962 , Naples ) is an Italian fencer - fencer who played for the Italian national fencing team from 1983-1999. Champion of the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta , bronze medalist at the Los Angeles Olympics , three-time world champion, European champion, multiple champion of the Italian national championship, winner and winner of many tournaments of international importance. Biography
Sandro Cuomo was born on October 21, 1962 in Naples , Italy . He trained at the FF OO Roma and Circolo Nautico Posillipo clubs.
He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in the 1983 season, when he joined the Italian national team and attended the World Championships in Vienna , from where he brought the bronze dignity award won in the team competition.
Thanks to a series of successful performances, he won the right to defend the country's honor at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles - he also became a bronze medalist in the team sword program, while in the individual competition he took 14th place.
In 1985, with his team, he won a silver medal at the world championship in Barcelona . A year later, at similar competitions in Sofia, he received bronze in the same discipline.
Being among the leaders of the fencing team of Italy, I successfully passed the selection for the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul - this time I stopped a step away from the prize positions, taking fourth places in both disciplines.
At the 1989 World Championships in Denver, he twice went up to the podium: he won the team event and took the individual silver.
He won the team classification of the fencers at the 1990 world championship in Lyon .
He participated in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , located in the final protocols on lines 26 and 5 in the personal and team disciplines, respectively.
In 1993, he added to his track record a gold award won among the fencing teams at the Essen World Cup .
In 1995, he became the bronze medalist of the world championship in The Hague , losing in the individual classification only to the French Eric Sreka and Robert Leroux .
At the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, he became fifth in the individual standings, while in the team standings together with partners Angelo Mazzoni and Maurizio Randazzo won first place, receiving a gold Olympic medal [1] .
After the fourth Olympics in his career, Cuomo for some time remained in the main team of the Italian national team and continued to take part in major international tournaments. So, in 1997 he won the bronze medal in the team epee at the world championships in Cape Town , and in 1999 he won the same discipline at the European home championship in Bolzano .
Having completed his sports career, he took up coaching activities, in particular from 2001-2003 he was responsible for the training of fencers of the Italian national team.
