Born in 1883 in the Serbuluzhitsky village of Gorni Vunyov in a peasant family. He graduated from high school in Budishin. From 1905 to 1909 he studied Lutheran theology at the University of Leipzig . In 1905 he joined the cultural and educational organization " Matitsa Serbo-Luzhitskaya ." From 1909 to 1913 he worked as a teacher. In 1913 he was appointed rector in the Lutheran parish in the village of Nosachitsy (Nostitz), where he served until his retirement in 1956.
In his student years, published in the journal «Raj». He published several plays. Three times he organized the youth festival " Shadzovanka " (1906, 1908, 1924). In 1907, he published in the journal Časopis Maćicy Serbskeje a literary study called Serbski rukopis w přiwisku Warjechoweho katechizma (The influence of Serbius’s manuscripts on the publication of the Small Catechism of Väclav Vorech ).
From 1917, before the Nazis came to power, he was the editor-in-chief of the magazine Pomhaj Bóh .
