Biography
In 1959 he graduated from the Belarusian Agricultural Academy. In the same year he was elected chairman of the collective farm "XVII Party Congress", which brought together 8 unprofitable farms. Under his leadership, a few years later the team achieved high results, and by 1990 the profitability of production on the collective farm was 72.8%. The central estate of the collective farm Ovsyanka repeatedly became the winner of the main exhibition of the USSR - VDNH. They built urban housing, a sports complex with a swimming pool, the House of Culture, a kindergarten, a bath and laundry plant, a public center and many other infrastructure facilities. Under him, economic accounting was introduced, "man-days" and "normo-shifts" soon entered textbooks. In 1985 he was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor. Since 1994, retired. He died in 2011. According to his testament, the ashes were scattered over the field near the office of the collective farm.
Memory
I. I. Melnik erected a monument on the square in the agro-town Ovsyanka Goretsky district. In Gorki, a memorial sign was erected in his honor on the Alley of Heroes of the Soviet Union and Socialist Labor. In 2017, the Goretsky District Executive Committee established a challenge prize named after Heroes of Socialist Labor I.I. Melnik and G.V. Belsky, which is awarded to the district's best farm for the highest output and sales figures.
