Biography

Carmela Alucci was born on June 22, 1970 in Naples , Italy . Swimming and water polo start at the age of six. At the club level, she played for the Volturno team; in the period 1985–1991, she won the Italian Championship with her seven times in a row, and later transferred to the Firenze Pallanuoto team from Florence .

Involved in the national team of Italy from the age of fifteen. The first serious success in the international arena was achieved in 1991, when she became the bronze medalist of the European Championship in Athens .

In 1994 she played at the home world championship in Rome and won bronze in the women's water polo competition.

She ranked first in the European Championships 1995 and 1997.

In the 1998 season, she performed at the World Championships in Perth , where, together with her team, she prevailed over all rivals and won the gold medal.

In 1999, she won the European home championship in Prato and became the bronze medalist of the World Cup in Winnipeg - in the semifinals the Italian with the score 4: 7 lost to the Netherlands, but in the consolation match for third place 6: 5 beat Hungary.

At the 2001 World Championships in Fukuoka, Aluccci won gold again, thus becoming a two-time world water polo champion. Brought a silver award from the European Championship in Budapest , having suffered a defeat in the final against the Hungarian national team.

In 2003, she attended the World Championships in Barcelona , from where she brought the silver dignity award - in the decisive final match the Italian water polo players met with the US team and lost to her with a score of 6: 8. Took gold at the European Championship in Ljubljana .

Thanks to a series of successful performances, Carmela Alucci was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens - under the guidance of coach Pierluigi Formiconi, the Italian team successfully passed all opponents in the tournament grid, despite losing the starting match in the group stage, and became the winner of this Olympic tournament. Alucci played in the status of captain and was noted by one abandoned ball. At the closing ceremony of the Games, she was entrusted to carry the banner of her country [1] .

She was awarded the Order of Merit for the Italian Republic in the degrees of a gentleman (2003) and a commander (2004) [2] [3] .
