Benkyo, Zoltan (pianist)

Zoltan Benkyo ( Hungarian Benkő Zoltán ; March 26, 1938 , Budapest - May 23, 2015 , Budapest ) - Hungarian pianist and music teacher. Grandson of Henrik Benkyo .

He graduated from the Liszt Academy of Music (1962), a student of Istvan Antal and Endre Petri . For five years he taught in Miskolc , then in 1967-1969. studied at graduate school at the Moscow Conservatory . In 1969-2005 taught at the Bartok Budapest Secondary School of Music (with a break in 1972-1976 to work in Finland in the city of Jyväskylä ). Among his students, in particular, Laszlo Shimon and Sandor Falvai .

He performed mainly as a chamber performer, especially in a duet with flutist Istvan Matuz : together they won several awards, including second place in the Gaudeamus competition of performers (Netherlands, 1971) and released the album “XXth Century Music for Flute and Piano” (1975). He also performed in duet with another pianist, Zoltan Kocsis .
