Biography

Before the revolution, he worked on the Moscow-Brest Railway, where he supervised the construction of track structures. At the turn of the 1910-1920s, he studied / worked in Germany, where he studied German experience and the technology of manufacturing hollow concrete blocks. Under the Soviet regime, he created and led the Tehbeton Architectural Cooperative Partnership (1925–1935), an organization involved in the implementation of hollow blocks (“concrete stones”) in construction [Comm. 1] . Collaborated with M.Ya. Ginzburg , I.A. Golosov , V.N. Vladimirov, I.F. Milinis , A.L. Parsnip .

In the 1920s, he participated in the construction and was one of the authors of typical constructive solutions of the late 1920s: the house of the RZHSKT "Demonstration Construction" (Gogolevsky Boulevard, Moscow), the hostel of the Cotton Factory (Rostokino, Moscow), the residential building of Uralsovnarkhoz (Sverdlovsk) , houses RZHSKT "Worker" for railway workers (Saratov). He proposed a number of innovative designs and building materials.

The most famous work is the house of the People's Commissariat of Finance (Moscow), in collaboration with architects M.Ya. Ginzburg and I.F. Milinis. [1] . According to the remark of E.B. Ovsyannikova , without the participation of this experienced engineer, the Narkomfin’s house could not be built so successfully [2] . In the absence of the construction industry, it ensured the production of slag blocks and other building materials directly from the construction site, from which the facades of the house are made, as well as blind interroom partitions. As I.A. writes It seems, “It was not only a social and household and architectural search, but also an experiment in the application of new structural and technological solutions, industrial production of standard reinforced concrete and concrete elements and their installation at a construction site. The load-bearing columns calculated in Tekhbeton and the walls, mounted on consoles, made it possible to perform tape glazing, which gave the building a new, figurative characteristic. Based on these principles, the Uraloblsovnarkhoz residential building in Sverdlovsk was also decided (architects M.Ya. Ginzburg, A.L. Pasternak, engineer S.L. Prokhorov) ” [3] .

Since the mid-1930s, the name of Prokhorov has disappeared from public space for many decades. The only photo of Sergei Lvovich of the 1930s, published in the book "Residential complex" The House of the People's Commissariat of Finance ", Moscow, 1928-1932." - Ekaterinburg: TATLIN, 2015, p. 431 - transferred to the authors of the publication from a private collection.
