History
The canton was formed as a result of the 2015 reform [1] . It consisted of separate communes of the abolished cantons of Cancale and Saint-Malo-Sud .

The canton includes communes (population according to the National Institute of Statistics for 2015 ):
- Cancale (5,166 people)
- La Gouesniere (1,799 people)
- Saint-Coulon (2,654 people)
- Saint-Malo (28,708 people) (northern and central areas)
- Saint-Meloir des Onds ( 4,014 people)
Policy
In the 2017 presidential election, residents of the canton gave Emmanuel Macron 28.7% of votes in the 1st round against 25.6% from François Fillon , 17.2% from Jean-Luc Melenchon and 14.4% from Marine Le Pen ; in the 2nd round, the canton was defeated by Macron, who received 76.5% of the vote. (2012 Round 1: Nicolas Sarkozy - 31.8%, Francois Hollande - 29.0%, Marine Le Pen - 12.7%; Round 2: Sarkozy - 50.7%).
Since 2015, the canton in the Council of the Department Illes and Wilen is represented by a member of the council of the city of Saint-Malo Anne Le Gagne ( Union of Democrats and Independents ) and the mayor of the commune of Cancale Pierre-Yves Mahieu ( Different rights ).
