Watchmen is an American drama series based on the eponymous comic book series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons . The creator of the series for HBO is Damon Lindelof , who is also a screenwriter and executive producer [1] . There will be nine episodes in season one [2] . The series takes place in an alternative modern reality in the United States, where masked superheroes and avengers were outlawed due to their brutal methods, but some of them get together to start a revolution, while others try to stop it.

When the show was at an early stage of production, in a long Instagram post from Damon Lindolof it became known that the series “Keepers” would not be a direct adaptation of the original source, but, instead, would be a “remix”; trying to tell a completely new story, established in the world where the events of the original storyline took place [3] . The series will also demonstrate different points of view, and the only characters from the original storyline are Dr. Manhattan , Silk Ghost, Justice in the Hood and Ozymandia [4] [5] . The series also focuses on Detective Angela Abar, codenamed Sister Night.
The series premiered on October 20, 2019 [6] .

Story
“The action of the Guardians takes place in an alternative, modern reality in the United States, where masked avengers are outlawed due to their violent methods. Despite this, some get together to start the revolution, while others try to stop it before it's too late, because a more important question arises above all of them: who keeps the keepers themselves? ”
Setting
The series takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma , in an alternative reality in 2019, where there is no Internet and smartphones [7] , 34 years after the comic book events. Robert Redford is the longest running US president , having been elected in 1992 [8] . After a group of supporters of white supremacy, calling itself the "Seventh Cavalry" (where they make homemade Rorschach masks), makes simultaneous attacks on police houses, the police begin to wear masks.

Production
Development
On October 1, 2015, it was reported that HBO had entered into preliminary negotiations with Zack Snyder , director of The Guardians of 2009, about a potential production of television adaptation [10] . HBO later confirmed that the messages were correct [11] .
On June 20, 2017, it was reported that Damon Lindelof was at the start of negotiations to develop a potential television adaptation for HBO. At that time it was said that both parties were in the process of concluding a deal, and it was confirmed that Zack Snyder was no longer involved in the proceedings [12] . On September 19, 2017, it was reported that the scriptwriters room was already open [13] . A day later, it was announced that HBO had formally ordered a pilot from production, and also ordered additional backup scenarios [14] .
On January 30, 2018, it was announced that Nicole Kassel would become the director and executive producer of the pilot, the script for which was written by Lindelof [15] . On May 22, 2018, Lindelof published an open five-page letter to fans of the comic book series, where he wrote that the television series would not be a direct adaptation of the source material or a continuation of it, but instead would show a new, original story [16] . On August 17, 2018, it was announced that HBO had ordered the first season from production, the premiere of which is expected in 2019 [17] . September 20, 2018 it became known that the music for the film will be composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross [18] .
On September 3, 2019, it was announced that the series would premiere on October 20, 2019 [6] .
Casting
On May 23, 2018, it was announced that Regina King , Don Johnson , Tim Blake Nelson , Louis Gossett Jr. Adelaide Clemens and Andrew Howard joined the cast of the pilot. It was also expected that at least one of the actors would have a potentially recurring role [19] . In June 2018, it was reported that Jeremy Irons , Tom Mison , Francis Fisher , Jacob Ming-Trent, Yahya Abdul-Mathin II and Sarah Vickers also starred in the pilot [20] [21] [22] . On August 7, 2018, it was announced that Dylan Shombing, Adelinn Spoon, and Lily Rose Smith had joined the cast of the pilot. [23] In November 2018, it became known that Gene Smart had joined the main cast, and that James Walk would have a recurring role. It was also confirmed that Irons will play the role of Adrian Weidt / Ozimandia , and that Nelson will play a new character named Mirror [24] [25] [26] [27] . On January 10, 2019, it was announced that Hong Chau and Dustin Ingram had joined the minor cast [28] [29] . In July 2019, it was announced that Robert Redford would return from retirement to play a fictional version of himself as president of the United States. [30]
July 17, 2019 it became known that Dr. Manhattan will appear in the series [31] .
Filming
The main pilot filming began on June 1, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia . Within a month, the shooting took place in cities and towns near Atlanta, including Macon , Fayetteville, Newnan , Palmetto, Brooks and Tucker [32] . In October 2018, filming for the remainder of the season began in Georgia. The locations this month were Palmetto, Brookhaven, Peachtree City, Decatur and Chamblee MARTA Station in Chambley [33] .
