Biography

The only early medieval historical source reporting on Andrew I is the “ Chronicle of the Dukes of Benevento, Salerno, Capua and Naples ”. According to her, he gained power over the Duchy of Naples in 672 or 673 after the death of Cosmas . At that time, Naples was part of Byzantium and for approval in the post, Andrei I had to obtain the consent of Emperor Constantine IV [1] [2] .

Nothing is known about the reign of Andrew I. In the Chronicle of the Dukes of Benevento, Salerno, Capua and Naples, it is reported that he ruled the Duchy of Naples for five years and died in 677. The successor of Andrew I in the post was Caesar I [1] [2] .
