The rivalry of the football clubs Kairat (Alma-Ata) and Shakhtar (Karaganda)

Soviet period

In 1958, the Shakhtar football club was officially assigned the status of a team of masters. From that moment, the Shakhtar and Kairat teams intersected in the USSR Championship. The first meeting took place in the same 1958 as part of the First League on May 25, in which the victory of the Almaty team was recorded with a score of 0: 3. ^[one]

In total, the teams met in eight matches in four seasons ( 1958 , 1959 , 1965 , 1970 ). This is due to the fact that “Kairat” was the only team of the Kazakh SSR that played in the USSR Highest Football Division (1960-1964, 1966-1969, 1971-1974, 1977-1982, 1984-1988), so they’re from Karaganda Miner ”were in different leagues.

Kazakhstan period

The first meeting in the post-Soviet period took place in 1992 as part of the Championship of Kazakhstan and also ended with the victory of “Kairat” with a score of 1: 3. Since that time, the teams met every year in the Championship ^[2] , with the exception of the 2009 season, when the Almaty team played in the First Division . It is noteworthy that the clubs did not meet each other in the final of the Cup or Super Cup of Kazakhstan . ^[3] This situation arose due to the fact that the years of Shakhtar’s rise coincided with the year of the crisis in Kairat, however, they repeatedly knocked each other out of the Kazakhstan Cup:

• Kazakhstan Cup 1992 - Kairat knocks out Shakhtar at 1/16 final 1-0 (b.v.);
• Kazakhstan Cup 1996/1997 - Kairat knocks out Shakhtar at the 1/4 final level in the sum of two matches 4-2 (4: 1, 0: 1);
• Kazakhstan Cup 1999/2000 - Kairat knocks out Shakhtar at the 1/8 final level with the sum of two matches 2-0 (0: 0, 2: 0);
• Kazakhstan Cup 2000/2001 - “Shakhtar” knocks out “Kairat” at the level of 1/4 finals in the sum of two matches 1-1 (0: 0, 1: 1 onwards);
• Kazakhstan Cup 2004 - Kairat knocks out Shakhtar at 1/16 final 2-1;
• Kazakhstan Cup 2008 - Shakhtar knock out Kairat at the 1/8 finals in the 1-1 penalty (5: 4 pen.);
• Kazakhstan Cup 2013 - Shakhtar knock out Kairat at 1/8 final 2-1;
• Kazakhstan Cup 2014 - Kairat knocks out Shakhtar at 1/2 finals in the sum of two matches 4-0 (2: 0, 2: 0);
• Kazakhstan Cup 2016 - Kairat knocks out Shakhtar at 1/8 final 4-0.

In the media, rivalry is often called the Kazakhstan derby . This is due to the fact that Kairat and Shakhtar are the oldest professional football clubs in Kazakhstan. Such a meeting history does not have any of the football teams.
