Content
Geography
Located on the Bolshaya Shatma River 11 km northwest of the village of Krasnoarmeyskoye and 38 km southwest of Cheboksary . The village is adjoined in the north of the village of Oba-Sirma , Chetriki , in the south - Yards , Kozhara .
There is a local road from the village to the south, facing the village of Kozhary on the Cheboksary- Vurnary highway, a road from the village to the west, facing the village of Verkhny Khorazany on the Cheboksary- Alikovo highway and a dead end road from the village north to the village of Golov .

Historical population: in 1859-170 people; 1906-184 people; 1926-156 people; 1939-168 people; 1979-103 people; 2002-143 people [3] .
Infrastructure
A secondary school, a kindergarten, a rural medical dispensary, a pharmacy, a post office, a branch of Sberbank, two shops, a village library, a leisure center, a museum of military glory, and a local history museum [3] .
There is an agricultural production cooperative "Michurinets".
History
The village has been known since the 17th century. Residents were engaged in agriculture, animal husbandry, shoe and shoe craft, tailoring, latrine [3] .
In 1861, a parish school opened, in 1881 - a zemstvo school, in 1895 a hospital appeared, in 1919 - a blacksmith-locksmith workshop, in 1920 - a kindergarten, in 1930 - a seven-year school (since 1940 - a secondary school ) [3] . The village was affected by the Chapan uprising (1921).
A monument to the Hero of the Soviet Union V. V. V. (1975) and an obelisk in honor of those who died in the Great Patriotic War (1965) were erected on the territory of the village.
Administrative affiliation
Until 1894, it was part of the Tinsarinsky volost , in 1894-1927 - in the Chuvash-Sorma volost of the Yadrinsky district , in 1927-1935 - in the Alikovsky district , in 1935-1962 - in the Krasnoarmeysky district (originally called Trakovsky), in 1962- 65 years - in Tsivilsky district . Since 1965, again as part of the Krasnoarmeysky district [3] .
People associated with the village
Vasilyev Vladimir Vasilyevich , Hero of the Soviet Union, was born in Big Shatma.
The Soviet scientist Grigoryev, Nikolai Grigoryevich (physicist) studied at the village school.
