Duke de Cardona

Duke de Cardona ( Spanish: duque de Cardona ) - Spanish aristocratic title. It was created in 1491 by the King of Aragon Ferdinand II the Catholic for (1446-1513), Count da Cardona (1486-1491), Count de Prades and Baron Entens (1486-1513), Viscount de Vilamoura (1486-1513).

The name of the ducal title comes from the name of the city of Cardona ( province of Barcelona , autonomous community of Catalonia ).

Content

History

The Viscountry of Cardon stood out from the Viscountry of Oson . The first holder of the title was Ramon Folk I, who ruled in 1040 - 1086 , since 1062 he was known as the Viscount of Cardona. Ramon was the son of Folk I, Viscount Osona (1029-1040).

Hugo II de Cardona (1328-1400), 10th Viscount de Cardona (1334-1375), on December 14, 1375 received the Count's title from King Aragon Pedro IV in reward for his actions against King Mallorca Jaime III .

His direct descendant, Juan Ramon Folk III de Cardona, 5th Earl of de Cardona (1446-1513), in 1491 received the title of Duke de Cardon.
