Provincial Administration, Thailand

The provincial administration in Thailand (APA) is a governing and executive government body related to local government. It is the largest local administrative organization in one province of Thailand (the exception is Bangkok ). Its goal is to ensure and maintain local self-government, coordinate the activities of regional administrations and develop a local development program.

History

Now PAT are local administrations . For the first time such an administrative entity was established in Thailand in 1933.

Powers and Functions

PAT is responsible for the development of the province, including in the areas of economics, social development, education, health care, the provision of public services, etc. Here are some of its main features: [1]

  • Caring for a stable economic development of the region, guaranteeing the quality of life of citizens.
  • Construction of utilities, such as water treatment plants.
  • Caring for educational issues, its availability.
  • Budget management.
  • Construction of important roads.
  • Disaster response and disaster relief. Their evacuation and further assistance.
  • Adjusting land issues for the benefit of society.
  • Resolving issues related to natural resources, environmental protection, local culture and customs
  • The development of information technology in the region.
  • Providing democratic power.


Elections of the members of the PAP Council

Board members under the governor are elected directly by the inhabitants of the province. Their term of office is 4 years. All of them should not be government officials, employees of state institutions or local state administration [2] .

Some of their main powers:

  • Consideration and publication of laws on the taxation of specialized goods, such as oil and tobacco.
  • Control and manage how the province budget is used. They approve a development plan for the province (with a budget) and approve public projects such as road construction.
  • Collection and management of taxation.
