Biography

Father is Dutch, mother is French.

In 1853 he graduated from the 1st Moscow gymnasium . Then he studied at the medical faculty of Moscow University . In 1854, as a student, he became the teacher of 7-year-old Nikolai Zhukovsky - he prepared him for admission to the gymnasium, showed physical and chemical experiments, taught to observe nature. Zhukovsky’s biographers note the important role of Repman in shaping the worldview of the future famous scientist [1] .

By profession, A. Kh. Repman was a doctor ( MD ), but became better known as an inventor, experimenter, inventor and popularizer in the field of physics, in particular electrical engineering . For example, the first patent obtained by P. N. Yablochkov (in France in 1875) was issued "... for the electromagnet of the Repman system, doctor of medicine in Moscow." This probably means that it was Repman who proposed the idea of this electromagnet [2] . He also used the advanced achievements of physics of that time in medicine (he opened one of the first water-electric treatment centers in Moscow) [3] .

In 1889-1917, Repman was the head of the Department of Applied Physics of the Polytechnic Museum [4] . He did a lot to replenish the museum, sought to get all the latest innovations in science and technology (for example, a preparation of freshly discovered radium was shown at the Polytechnic Museum [3] ). According to historians, as a result of Repman’s efforts, “the physical department in terms of the wealth of its collections exceeded the physical rooms, if not Europe, then in any case Russia” [4] .

At the same time, Repman worked as a doctor at the Dolgorukov school of the Moscow charity [5] .

A. Kh. Repman was a member of the Society of lovers of natural sciences, anthropology and ethnography , an honorary member of the Russian Photographic Society .
